This is an old revision of the document!


To find midi devices known to work check the midi_interface_whitelist.

Problems with SysEx transfers have been noticed with following MIDI interfaces:

Vendor Model notes
Access Virus TI Polar :?: Works unreliable for SysEx transfers under OS X (10.5). Suspected SysEx filtering. Plain MIDI sending/receiving seems OK.
Akai MPD24 :?:
Behringer BCA2000 :?: Works unreliable for SysEx transfers under Windows XP. Plain MIDI sending/receiving seems OK.
BCR2000 :?: Works unreliable for SysEx transfers under OS X (10.5). Plain MIDI sending/receiving seems OK.
CME VX 5 :?: Works unreliable for SysEx transfers under OS X (10.5). Suspected SysEx filtering. Plain MIDI sending/receiving seems OK.
Conrad Electronic UA0037 Bytes get lost during SysEx transfer under OSX and WinXP
E-MU Xmidi 1×1 Tab Works unreliable for SysEx transfers under Windows 7 64. See this thread for more details.
Xmidi 2×2 Same as above for Windows XP-64 bit. This thread describes the symptoms.
ESI MIDIMATE :?: Works unreliable for SysEx transfers under Windows XP. Plain MIDI sending/receiving seems OK.
RoMI/O II In opposite to the RoMI/O I model this device uses native OS drivers and will therefore not be recognised by MIOS Studio.
JUstin Midi USB Unstable SysEx Transfers (checksum errors) under MacOS, probably also under Windows.
M-Audio Audiophile USB :?:
Keystation Pro 88 :?: Works unreliable for SysEx transfers under Windows XP. Plain MIDI sending/receiving seems OK.
MIDIsport 2×2 Unstable SysEx transfers under MacOS 10.6 with most recent driver (last update: 2011) - was working stable years before, still works stable under Windows and Linux
NI Kore 1 :?: Unstable SysEx transfers (sporadic checksum errors) under MacOS, probably also under Windows.
noname MIDI USB Adapter Sold at ebay for US$7.99, also available at Maplin for £29.99 (what a difference…!) - incomplete SysEx transfers under MacOS!
Novation Remote SL :?: Unstable SysEx transfers
Swisssonic MIDI-USB 1×1 :?: Works unreliable for SysEx transfers under Windows (e.g. Buffer overrun messages during code upload)
Tascam US-122 :?: Bytes get lost during SysEx transfer, even with the most recent windows driver version 3.3; model US-122L is OK!
Yamaha UX256 :?: Bytes get lost during SysEx transfer under WinXP and 2000 (earlier versions not tested), even with most recent MIDI drivers (Yamaha universal drivers)

Devices marked with a :?: should be confirmed to be not working by a second user. If you can confirm that a device isn't suited for MB-usage, edit this page and remove the corresponding :?: .
