A pinheader is a basic connector to plug things on your PCB without having them soldered.
It can be single or dual row (SIL-DIL). The usual pitch, aka the distance between 2 pins is 2,54mm.
A pin header is designed to be splitted that you can hav only the number of pins required to solder.
